The Gerlovins and restoration of painted panel to canvas

There is a process for detaching a painting from a wooden panel and attaching it to a canvas. In the past this process has been looked down on because of possible damage to the painting.  I have as of yet to see the technique outlined. You can help me google for more info.

Rimma Gerlovina and Valeriy Gerlovin are a man an woman couple. A lot of their photography work involves her hair and the symbolism it provides. I've added some images I found on the internet.
